Body Image Skills Group for Young Adults Launching in January
Hi everybody! I am excited to share that I will be leading a six-week body image skills group for young adults starting in January. This group may be a good fit for you if:
You feel uncomfortable in your skin
You are consumed by thoughts about food and exercise
You struggle with body checking or weighing yourself
You constantly compare your body to others
You’ve tried out “body positivity” but it doesn’t seem to work for you
You feel alone in your body image struggle
Your negative body image gets in the way of you enjoying your life
In this group, you will learn a range of concrete tools and strategies for managing body image distress through a mix of small group conversation, psychoeducation, and personal reflection. Each 75 minute session will include:
20-30 minutes of discussion and connection
45-55 minutes of education and learning
You’re welcome to participate in the conversation as much or as little as you'd like! You will also need paper and something to write with. Please note that individuals of all body types and all genders are welcome.
Group Objectives:
Gain insight into your own relationship with your body
Learn more about the psychology and science of body image distress
Work towards body acceptance by learning and practicing a range of effective skills/tools
Reduce unhelpful behaviors such compulsive exercise, body checking, calorie counting, negative self talk, and more
